Here are our FPL Way Picks for the first Gameweek of the 2021-22 season. The deadline for GW1 is on Friday 13th August at 18:30 BST.
It feels like it’s been a very long wait and we can’t wait for the new Fantasy Premier League season to commence now.
We will basically be building a team that we feel will make a solid team selection for Gameweek 1 with a £100m budget. This team uses the full 100m budget.
Before we get started, let’s have a look at all of the Gameweek 1 Fixtures and then the top five teams with the best upcoming fixtures.

THE FPL WAY XV – WHO ARE THE BEST FPL PLAYERS TO OWN FOR GW1?
We will be going through all the fixtures for our team selection and will provide you with the reason as to why we have selected them.
Man Utd vs Leeds
In this fixture we have selected two Man Utd assets; Luke Shaw (5.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (12.0m). Man Utd has a decent run of fixtures at the start of the season and we can definitely see them keeping a few clean sheets, especially when Raphael Varane joins them in defence. Fernandes on the other hand netted 18 goals and provided 14 assists last season (3rd top goal scorer in the PL and joined leader on assists). That being said, it feels that Fernandes is essential to any FPL team this season.
Burnley vs Brighton
Just the one selection here with the Goalkeeper; Robert Sánchez (4.5m). This is a potential set and forget player, he managed to keep 10 clean sheets last season in only 27 matches which is a clean sheet percentage of 37%.
Leicester vs Wolves
Here we have selected Harvey Barnes (7.0m). Leicester looked to be a very solid team in their 1-0 victory against Man City in the FA Community Shield and Barnes (and even Vardy for that matter) looked to be in tip-top shape. I think it’s fair to say Leicester will have another strong season and this man will be a very valuable asset to everyone’s FPL Managers team.
Watford vs Aston Villa
For this fixture, we have the new signing Danny Ings (8.0m). What a great signing this guy is for the Villans. In 29 matches, Ings accumulated 12 goals and 4 assists and we definitely feel he will only become an even more valuable asset for Villa this season. Ings has already managed to net his first goal in his last preseason friendly against Salernitana. We just have a great feeling about this player and simply had to include him within our starting XI.
Newcastle vs West Ham
Two selections here from the Villa squad with Saïd Benrahma (6.0m) and Michail Antonio (7.5m). Benrahma used to play for Brentford and what a class player he was for them. In the Championship he netted 17 goals and 8 assists one season and was a key asset to the club. He also provided 2 goals in his latest 3 preseason friendlies so he’s looking to be a very promising player this season. West Ham fans are predicting that the Algerian star will enjoy a wonderful campaign for the East London outfit this season. As for Antonio, we all know the damage this guy can do when he is fully fit. In 26 starts, he netted 10 goals and provided 5 assists and we have a feeling that he will have another strong season in this years campaign.
Our Bench Picks
Ben Foster (4.0m)
This selection is mainly to save 0.5m to upgrade our team elsewhere. A class goalkeeper, although it’s probably unlikely he’ll start when they have Bachmann in goal.
Vladimir Coufal (5.0m)
The West Ham United all-around output was vital to his successful debut campaign in 2020/21. Last season he kept 9 clean sheets, 9 assists, 12 bonus points and claimed 11th place amongst the defenders with 128 points. That being said, he could definitely be a very important asset to this FPL season.
Ben White (4.5m)
This is Arsenal’s new signing in the summer transfer market who came from Brighton in a whopping £50 million move. Last season he kept 12 clean sheets for Brighton and we’re hoping Arsenal could have a better season this year. At 4.5m, you simply can’t go wrong with this player.
Yves Bissouma (4.5m)
Bissouma is a regular starter for Brighton and is the cheapest price a midfielder can get. You could simply say that he is bench fodder for our team selection, a player that can come on should one of our starting XI not start.
