Who Are The Best FPL Players To Own For GW8?

Here are my FPL Way Picks for Gameweek 8 for the 2021-22 season. The deadline for GW8 is on Saturday 16th October at 11:00 BST.

I will be building a team that I feel will perform well in Gameweek 8. This team uses the whole £100m of the £100m budget.

Here are the fixtures for Gameweek 8

Let’s have a look at the top ten teams with the best fixtures, both defensively and offensively

This is how predicted fixture difficulty is rated:

The FPL XV – Who Are the Best Assets to Own in GW8?

What a horrifying GW7 we had right? But fortunately, a lot of us were in the same boat. We hope you are all enjoying International Break and are ready to get back into FPL mode with GW8 swiftly approaching. The Lukaku injury scare is a worrying one, especially for the 37.2% of players who own him; let’s hope he recovers and we hear an update before the Gameweek deadline. That being said, let’s get started with the reasonings as to why I have selected this squad for Gameweek 8.

Robert Sánchez (4.6m)

Norwich vs Brighton

Sánchez has kept 3 clean sheets so far this season which is great for a budget goalkeeper. He is currently joint 3rd for clean sheets this season with only Alisson (4) and Ederson (5) keeping more. They face Norwich away in this fixture who have only scored 2 goals in 7 GW’s so I’m definitely anticipating a clean sheet here.

Antonio Rüdiger (5.8m)

Brentford vs Chelsea

Chelsea has an excellent run of favourable fixtures, so not only is he a great pick for GW8, he’ll be a great selection for the next 4 fixtures as well. He’s the most nailed on player in The Blues backline and hasn’t missed a single minute all season.

Rúben Santos Gato Alves Dias (6.1m)

Man City vs Burnley

Man City have kept 5 out of 7 clean sheets so far this season and a fair few of these have been tough fixtures. As they face Burnley at home, I can only see this becoming 6 out of 8. He’s assisted once and gained an additional 5 bonus points so far which is exactly what you want from a defender. Currently, he sits in 3rd place for the most points out of the defenders which adds to the many reasons I selected him in this squad.

João Pedro Cavaco Cancelo (6.2m)

Man City vs Burnley

So I’ve doubled up on Man City defence and he features in this squad for all the reasons as above. The only difference between Dias and Cancelo is that Cancelo is the highest scoring defender in FPL so far and has provided 2 assists and accumulated 6 bonus points. Both of these Man City defenders have played the full 90 minutes in all Premier League matches so far this season which is quite rare in a Pep Roulette squad; so let’s take advantage of this whilst we can!

Virgil van Dijk (6.6m)

Watford vs Liverpool

With TAA still out with a groin injury, I’ve decided to go for VVD at the back who is the most nailed on Liverpool defender. He’s a magnet for bonus points and plays a huge role in Liverpool’s defence. I can certainly see this becoming The Reds 5th clean sheet of the season as they face Watford away this weekend.

Mohamed Salah (12.7m)

Watford vs Liverpool

The stats say it all when it comes to the Egyptian King and I can’t explain how essential this man is for any FPL Manager. What actually does surprise me here is that 38.8% of managers actually DON’T own him. In 7 Gameweeks, he’s accumulated 70 points (10 points per game), 6 goals and 4 assists and is the highest-scoring player in FPL so far this season. He’s even 21 points ahead of the second-highest scoring player; which is Antonio with 49 points. The last time Watford and Liverpool faced each other was a 2-0 victory, take a guess who scored both goals…

Emile Smith Rowe (5.4m)

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

Smith Rowe is my differential pick in my team selection this week with only 5.6% ownership. He played an absolute class match in the London Derby against Spurs in GW6 when he scored a goal and provided an assist. Arsenal seems to be bouncing back from their awful start to the season and I wouldn’t be surprised to see an attacking return from this guy as they face a weak Palace squad at their home turf.

Heung-Min Son (10.1m)

Newcastle vs Spurs

Are we seeing the return of Son? It’s definitely looking that way. In the last two Gameweeks, he’s accumulated 17 points with 1 goal and 2 assists. Match that with the fact that Newcastle is joint first on goals conceded (16) so far this season. I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly feeling another haul from the South Korean footballer.

Michail Antonio (7.9m)

Everton vs West Ham

Antonio has had an epic start to the FPL season. He’s the second-highest scoring player with 49 points averaging at 8.2 points per game. Although this seems to be a difficult away fixture, Antonio is simply impossible to ignore. Everton is not looking to be that great defensively and they could quite easily be punished by the man who has scored 5 goals and provided 4 assists so far in the Premier League.

Hee-Chan Hwang (5.6m)

Aston Villa vs Wolves

Since joining Wolves in Gameweek 4, Hwang has looked to be an incredible player in their attack. He’s scored 3 goals so far in the 249 minutes he has contributed to the squad which averages more than a goal per 90 minutes. With only 4.0% ownership at 5.6m, this could seem like a bit of a punt, but if you’ve been watching him play; you would certainly agree that he is a great pick for GW8.

Romelu Lukaku (11.7m)

Brentford vs Chelsea

The Belgium lad simply can’t be ignored in their streak of very friendly fixtures and we all know what this man is capable of.

However, since writing this article, Lukaku is suffering from muscle fatigue and is not in the best condition to play. We will have to keep an eye on updates to see if he will be fit for the weekend. A few decent alternatives for GW8 in case he is ruled out are:

  • Jamie Vardy (10.5m) – Plays Man Utd at Home
  • Gabriel Fernando de Jesus (8.6m) – Plays Burnley at Home
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (9.9m) – Plays Crystal Palace at Home

Our Bench Picks

Jason Steele (4.0m)

Simply bench fodder allowing to upgrade the team elsewhere.

Tino Livramento (4.2m)

A decent addition to the team and comes at a very decent price. In addition, Southampton also has some very favourable fixtures in the next few Gameweeks.

Douglas Luiz Soares de Paulo (4.6m)

Bench fodder and also plays every match for Villa.

Josh Brownhill (4.4m)

Bench fodder and also plays every match for Burnley.
