Hello, and welcome to the 9th edition of this season’s Predicting the Dream Team brought to you by me, FPL Texan. In this article, we preview FPL Gameweek 12 of the 2021/2022 season.
In this series, I go head-to-head each week with Fantasy Football Fix to see who can select the best team of the week, their algorithm or myself. It is a classic battle of man vs. machine!
Let’s take a look at the current standings:
Fantasy Football Fix Algorithm
Moving onto Gameweek 12, let’s take a look at Fix’s Team.
Fix’s Predicted Team of the Week
Please note that this team is accurate as of Thursday 18th November. However, the algorithm team updates right up until the deadline with news from press conferences and potential injuries.
Therefore, to stay completely up to date with the algorithm team, you can check it yourself just before the deadline at FantasyFootballFix.com.
Next, we will look at my predicted team of the week, and the reasons behind each decision.
Texan’s Predicted Team of the Week
- Price: £4.6m
- Ownership: 7.4%
- Projected Points: 3.7 Points
Guaita makes his debut in the team of the week this week. Palace has been surprisingly very strong in defence this season, ranking second in the league in xGA, trailing only Man City. Burnley have struggled to get going so far attacking wise this season, ranking 6th worst in xG, so another Palace clean sheet could be on the cards this week.
Guaita averages 2.81 saves per match, so there is save point potential.
- Price: £5.9m
- Ownership: 22.1%
- Projected Points: 3.5 Points
James makes the team of the week this week. Reece has been in phenomenal form this season, ranking 1st amongst defenders in the league for xG per 90 at 0.23. He also ranks second for xA per 90 at 0.36 trailing only Trent Alexander Arnold, showing that he is very active in this Chelsea attack that has been performing well ranking 3rd best in xG in the league.
With 3 goals and an assist in his last 3 games, Reece James is in great attacking form, so he makes the team of the week.
- Price: £7.7m
- Ownership: 30.0%
- Projected Points: 5.0 Points
Trent is in the team of the week again this week with a matchup against Arsenal. Liverpool has been a strong defence this season, with the 5th best xGA in the league, whilst the Arsenal attack is in the middle of the road for xG in the league. Trent also offers phenomenal attacking return potential, ranking 1st in xA per 90 amongst defenders in the league at 0.39, and first in attempted assists per 90 at 3.44.
Trent and the Liverpool attack are firing on all cylinders at the moment, so he’s a lock-in for the team of the week.
- Price: £6.5m
- Ownership: 28.9%
- Projected Points: 5.6 Points
Cancelo is back in the team of the week this week with a matchup against Everton. City has been one of the best, if not the best, defences in the league again this season with the best xGA in the league by some margin. Cancelo also offers great attacking return potential, ranking 1st in xG per 90 and xA per 90 amongst City defenders.
Cancelo has been great for this City side this season, and I think he could be in for a big game this week against Everton.
- Price: £7.5m
- Ownership: 12.8%
- Projected Points: 5.3 Points
Jota is in the team of the week this week. Liverpool is the top team in the league for xG so far this season, and Jota has been a major factor in their success. He ranks third in xG per 90 on the team at 0.32 and third for xA per 90 at 0.32.
With Firmino out for a lengthy period of time, Jota looks a great pick this week and going forward.
- Price: £5.6m
- Ownership: 4.5%
- Projected Points: 3.1 Points
Mbeumo makes the article this week, as Brentford face Newcastle. Newcastle has the worst xGA in the league this season, so Brentford attackers should be in for a good week. Mbeumo has been a big factor in the Bees attack this season, ranking first on the team for xG per 90 at 0.36 and shots per 90.
Mbeumo has been a bit of a disappointment so far for owners, but I think this could be the week where he turns it around.
- Price: £5.9m
- Ownership: 16.2%
- Projected Points: 3.4 Points
Gallagher is in the team of the week this week. He and Palace go up against a Burnley side that ranks near the bottom of the league in xGA. Gallagher has been crucial to Palace’s early-season success, ranking first in xG per 90 at 0.38 and second in xA per 90 at 0.18.
Gallagher has been in fine form this season, and I expect that to continue this week against Burnley.
MOHAMED SALAH (C)
- Price: £13.0m
- Ownership: 71.6%
- Projected Points: 6.9 Points
Salah is once again my captaincy selection this week. The Liverpool attack has been in phenomenal form, leading the league in xG by some margin. Salah has been on another level this season, with 10 goals and 8 assists through 11 league games. He leads the league in xG per 90 at 0.64 and is 5th in xA per 90 at 0.33.
When Salah is in this form, he is a set and forget captain for me, and an absolute lock in the team of the week.
- Price: £12.2m
- Ownership: 8.3%
- Projected Points: 5.7 Points
Kane starts off the forward line this week. He goes up against a Leeds side that rank in the bottom half of the league for xGA. Although Kane hasn’t lit it up with returns so far this season, he is ranked second on the team for xG per 90 at 0.24 and first for xA per 90 at 0.18. He also scored 7 goals, albeit against weak opponents, during the International Break so hopefully, that will also kick start him in the league.
Kane has been off to a poor start by his standards this season, but I think that could start to change this week against Leeds.
- Price: £8.2m
- Ownership: 47.9%
- Projected Points: 4.8 Points
Antonio is in the team of the week against this week. Antonio has been in excellent form to start the season, ranking fourth in the league for xG per 90 at 0.58, and tied second for xA per 90 amongst forwards at 0.29.
When fit, Antonio is a must in the team of the week.
- Price: £7.4m
- Ownership: 2.4%
- Projected Points: 4.9 Points
Wilson rounds out the team of the week this week. He faces newly-promoted Brentford, who have looked poor defensively since losing goalkeeper Raya to injury. Wilson has looked good when fit this season, ranking first on the team in xG per 90 at 0.37.
Reunited with former manager Eddie Howe, I think Wilson could be in for a nice game this week.
