Hello, and welcome to the 11th edition of this season’s Predicting the Dream Team brought to you by me, FPL Texan. In this article, we preview FPL Gameweek 13 of the 2021/2022 season.
In this series, I go head-to-head each week with Fantasy Football Fix to see who can select the best team of the week, their algorithm or myself. It is a classic battle of man vs. machine!
Let’s take a look at last week’s results
Fantasy Football Fix Algorithm
As you can see, Fix won last week!
The main difference was their selection of Ilkay Gundogan, who scored 13 FPL points last week.
Moving onto Gameweek 13, let’s take a look at Fix’s Team.
Fix’s Predicted Team of the Week
Please note that this team is accurate as of Monday 30h November. However, the algorithm team updates right up until the deadline with news from press conferences and potential injuries.
Therefore, to stay completely up to date with the algorithm team, you can check it yourself just before the deadline at FantasyFootballFix.com.
Next, we will look at my predicted team of the week, and the reasons behind each decision.
Texan’s Predicted Team of the Week
- Price: £5.0m
- Ownership: 2.9%
- Projected Points: 4.9 Points
Sa is back in the team of the week this week. Wolves have been quite a strong defence this season, ranking ninth in the league in xGA. Burnley have struggled to get going so far attacking wise this season with the fifth-worst xG in the league to date, so a clean sheet could be on the cards for Wolves this week.
Sa averages 3.23 saves per match, averaging a save point per contest.
- Price: £6.3m
- Ownership: 35.7%
- Projected Points: 5.5 Points
James makes the team of the week again this week. Reece has been in phenomenal form for Chelsea this season, ranking 1st amongst defenders in the league for xG per 90 at 0.20. He also ranks second for xA per 90 at 0.28. James also ranks first amongst defenders in xFPL points per 90 at 8.29 points.
With an extremely hot start to the season, Reece James is in great attacking form, so he makes the team of the week.
- Price: £8.0m
- Ownership: 38.1%
- Projected Points: 5.8 Points
Trent is in the team of the week again this week with a matchup against Everton. Liverpool has been a strong defence this season, with the 4th best xGA in the league. Trent also offers phenomenal attacking return potential, ranking 1st in xA per 90 amongst defenders in the league at 0.44, and first in successful crosses per 90 at 2.43.
Trent and the Liverpool attack are firing on all cylinders at the moment, so he’s a must in the team of the week.
- Price: £6.7m
- Ownership: 36.3%
- Projected Points: 5.0 Points
Cancelo is in the defence this week with a matchup against Villa. City has been one of the best, if not the best, defences in the league again this season with the best xGA in the league by some margin. Cancelo also offers great attacking return potential, ranking tied for 4th in xG per 90 and xA per 90 amongst defenders and ranks first on City for xFPL points per 90 at 6.65 Points.
Cancelo has been one of City’s best players this season, so with a nice matchup against Villa, he makes the team of the week this week.
- Price: £5.6m
- Ownership: 9.8%
- Projected Points: 6.2 Points
Alonso rounds out the defence and my double Chelsea defence this week. Watford is middle of the road in xG this season, but Chelsea’s defence has been immense again under Tuchel with the second-best xGA in the league behind City. Alonso offers great attacking potential, with an xG per 90 of 0.11, and an xA per 90 of 0.14
With Chilwell out injured, and a nice matchup for Chelsea, Alonso makes the team of the week.
- Price: £6.7m
- Ownership: 19.9%
- Projected Points: 4.8 Points
Raphinha is in the team of the week this week. He and Leeds go up against a Palace side that has been very strong this season defensively, ranking third-best in xGA, but have wavered the last few weeks. Raphinha has been vital to Leeds success, ranking second in xG per 90 at 0.22 and first in xA per 90 at 0.17.
Raphinha has been in fine form this season, and I expect that to continue this week against Palace.
MOHAMED SALAH (C)
- Price: £13.0m
- Ownership: 72.5%
- Projected Points: 7.1 Points
Salah is once again my captaincy selection this week. The Liverpool attack has been in phenomenal form, leading the league in xG by some margin. Salah has been on another level this season, with 11 goals and 9 assists through 13 league games. He is third in the league in xG per 90 at 0.62 and is 3rd in xA per 90 at 0.37.
When Salah is in this form, he is a set and forget captain for me, and an absolute lock in the team of the week.
- Price: £7.8m
- Ownership: 22.0%
- Projected Points: 7.0 Points
Jota is in the team of the week this week. Liverpool is the top team in the league for xG so far this season, and Jota has been a major factor in their success. He ranks first in the league in xG per 90 at 0.70.
With Firmino again out this week, and Jota being fit he is a lock in the team of the week when he has a good matchup.
- Price: £12.3m
- Ownership: 11.0%
- Projected Points: 5.3 Points
Kane is in the team of the week again this week. He goes up against a Brentford side that ranks middle of the road for xGA but have been poor since losing Raya to injury. Although Kane hasn’t lit it up with returns so far this season, he is ranked second on the team for xG per 90 at 0.27 and first for xA per 90 at 0.17.
Kane has been off to a poor start by his standards this season, but I think that could start to change this week against Brentford.
- Price: £7.4m
- Ownership: 3.4%
- Projected Points: 6.1 Points
Wilson makes a return to the team of the week this week. Norwich has been poor defensively this season, ranking third last in xGA. Newcastle has also been poor offensively, but with the addition of attacking manager Eddie Howe I think that could start to change this week. Wilson is crucial to Newcastle’s attacking success, ranking first in xG per 90 at 0.35.
With Eddie Howe under charge against a poor Norwich side, I think Wilson could be in for a nice week this week.
- Price: £7.8m
- Ownership: 13.9%
- Projected Points: 4.5 Points
Jimenez rounds out the team of the week this week. He faces Burnley, who ranks eighth in the league for xGA. Jimenez has been a vital part of Wolves attack this season, ranking second in xG per 90 at 0.28 and first in xA per 90 at 0.17.
Jimenez was quiet last week against Norwich, but I don’t expect him to quiet 2 weeks in a row.
