Hello, and welcome to the 13th edition of this season’s Predicting the Dream Team brought to you by me, FPL Texan. In this article, we preview FPL Gameweek 22 of the 2021/2022 season.
In this series, I go head-to-head each week with Fantasy Football Fix to see who can select the best team of the week, their algorithm or myself. It is a classic battle of man vs. machine!
Let’s take a look at the results
|Manager||Gameweek Score||Overall Points||H2H Score|
|Fantasy Football Fix Algorithm||72||868||6|
Moving onto Gameweek 22, let’s take a look at Fix’s Team.
Fix’s Predicted Team of the Week
Please note that this team is accurate as of Friday 14th January. However, the algorithm team updates right up until the deadline with news from press conferences and potential injuries.
Therefore, to stay completely up to date with the algorithm team, you can check it yourself just before the deadline at FantasyFootballFix.com.
Next, we will look at my predicted team of the week, and the reasons behind each decision.
Texan’s Predicted Team of the Week
DAVID DE GEA
- Price: £ 5.2m
- Ownership: 12.2%
- Projected Points: 8.0 Points
De Gea makes the team of the week with a double Gameweek of Brentford and Villa. With both opponents ranking in the bottom half of the league for xG, this could be a good week for the United defence that ranks 7th worst in the league for xG.
DDG has been great in goal this season, and has been racking up the saves, averaging 3.20 saves per match.
- Price: £8.4m
- Ownership: 43.4%
- Projected Points: 0 Points
Trent is in the team of the week again this week with a matchup against Brentford. Liverpool have been a strong defence this season, with the 3rd best xGA in the league. Trent also offers phenomenal attacking return potential, ranking 1st in xA per 90 amongst defenders in the league at 0.38, and second in xFPL points per 90 at 7.17.
- Price: £4.4m
- Ownership: 2.1%
- Projected Points: 6.2 Points
Lowton makes his debut in the team of the week this season with a double Gameweek of Watford and Leicester. Burnley have been a middle of the road defence this season, but with a crucial relegation matchup at home against Watford, I think Burnley defence could be a sneaky play this week.
Last double gameweek, Lowton was a hero for managers and hopefully he can repeat that this gameweek.
- Price: £4.5m
- Ownership: 2.6%
- Projected Points: 4.6 Points
Lamptey rounds out the defence this week with a double of Chelsea and Crystal Palace. Brighton have been a strong defence this season, with the 6th best xG in the league. Lamptey has provided a much needed attacking boost to the Brighton side since returning from injury, ranking first in xG per 90 and xA per 90 amongst defenders on the team.
- Price: £6.7m
- Ownership: 21.7%
- Projected Points: 5.2 Points
Bowen makes the team of the week this week with a nice matchup against a Leeds side that ranks 3rd worst in the league for xGA. Bowen has been in phenomenal form as of late, ranking second on the team in xG per 90 at 0.36 and third on the team in xA per 90 at 0.18.
With only one game this gameweek, I think Bowen still has the potential to outscore double gameweek players.
- Price: £11.6m
- Ownership: 15.4%
- Projected Points: 8.4 Points
Bruno makes a return to the article this week with a double of Brentford and Villa. Although the returns have not been there, Bruno has still been putting up good numbers for the United side. He ranks 5th in the league for xA per 90 at 0.29 and 4th for attempted assists per 90 at 2.87.
With many looking for a short term Salah replacement, Bruno could be a nice option this double gameweek.
- Price: £8.3m
- Ownership: 33.9%
- Projected Points: 7.7 Points
Jota is in the team of the week this week. Liverpool is the top team in the league for xG so far this season, and Jota has been a major factor in their success, ranking second in the league in xG per 90 at 0.71 and 11th in xA per 90 at 0.29.
With Salah and Mane at AFCON, Jota is a lock-in for the team of the week.
- Price: £6.9m
- Ownership: 11.3%
- Projected Points: 9.3 Points
Maddison makes his debut in the article this week with a double Gameweek of Tottenham and Burnley. Maddison has been a key part of the Leicester attack, ranking second in xG per 90 at 0.28 and second in xA per 90 at 0.18.
Maddison looks to be a great option this week at his price point, and with Salah and Son out I think a lot will be moving to him.
CRISTIANO RONALDO ©
- Price: £12.5m
- Ownership: 31.3%
- Projected Points: 10.3 Points
Ronaldo is my captain in the team of the week this week. He has a double of Brentford and Villa. Ronaldo has been in great form this season, ranking third in the league for xG per 90 at 0.67.
With his first double gameweek since returning to the PL, I think Ronaldo will perform very well so he’s my captain selection this week.
- Price: £12.2m
- Ownership: 11.5%
- Projected Points: 9.0 Points
Kane makes the team of the week this week. He and Spurs have a Double Gameweek of Arsenal and Leicester. Despite a lack of returns, Kane has been putting up solid underlying stats ranking second in xG per 90 at 0.38 and second in xA per 90 at 0.18.
With a double gameweek and a big rivalry game this week, Kane makes the team of the week.
- Price: £5.8m
- Ownership: 7.7%
- Projected Points: 7.0 Points
King rounds out the team of the week this week. He has a double Gameweek of Burnley and Newcastle which is arguably the best double for an attacking player this week. King has been very good this season for Watford, ranking first in xG per 90 at 0.47 and third for xA per 90 at 0.17.
As a member of #AnalyticsFC, King makes the team of the week.
