Who Are The Best FPL Players To Own For GW5?

Here are my FPL Way Picks for Gameweek 5 of the 2021-22 season. The deadline for GW5 is on Friday 17th September at 18:30 BST.

I will be building a team that I feel will perform well in Gameweek 5. This team uses 99.6m of the 100m budget.

Before I get started, let’s have a look at all of the Gameweek 5 Fixtures along with the top 6 teams with the best attacking and defensive fixtures.

THE FPL WAY XV – WHO ARE THE BEST FPL PLAYERS TO OWN FOR GW5?

I will be going through all the fixtures for my team and provide reasons for selection.

Newcastle vs Leeds

I have selected one player from this match which is Patrick Bamford (7.9m). With both Antonio and DCL ruled out for GW5, this will definitely be a popular swap for a forward at this price range. Although Bamford has not had the greatest start, I can’t ignore the fact that he was a great asset last season returning 17 goals and 11 assists. Leeds now also has a great run of fixtures now so I’m definitely expecting to see plenty of returns from now on.

Wolves vs Brentford

Wolves are another team with a great run of fixtures and I have selected three players from their team with Fernando Marçal (4.6m), Adama Traoré (6.0m), and Raúl Jiménez (7.4m). For me, this game has a clean sheet written all over it which is part of the reason I’ve added Marçal to the squad. Not only that, but he provided two assists last Gameweek against Watford and looks to be quite an attacking left wing-back. Although Traoré has not provided an attacking return so far this season, I’ve not quite lost faith in him yet and for 6 million, you can’t really go wrong. Jiménez is another player, like Bamford in my opinion, a poor start to the season but he could return at any time. When Traoré and Jiménez are having a good day, they form a great partnership and I feel like this will start this weekend against Brentford at home.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

I have another triple up here with Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.5m), Diogo Jota (7.6m), and Mohamed Salah (12.5m). Liverpool have kept 3 clean sheets out of 4 games this season and in two of these matches, TAA has provided an assist and 12 points in each game – for me, TAA is essential. With Firmino out with a hamstring injury, this definitely adds additional appeal to Jota. I’m expecting attacking returns from both Jota and Salah when they face Palace this weekend. Liverpool beat Leeds 3-0 away in their last fixture where they registered 30 shots (9 on target) which could easily have been a goal-fest. It was surprising Jota didn’t get an attacking return but there was plenty of haul potentials in that game and I’m expecting bigger things in this fixture.

Man City vs Southampton

Just one player pick here with João Pedro Cavaco Cancelo (6.0m). It seems Cancelo and Dias are the most nailed on players for City and they have also kept 3 out of 4 clean sheets so far this season. We all know how frustrating Pep Roulette can be, but if Cancelo starts, I can definitely see them getting a clean sheet against Southampton.

Norwich vs Watford

Two Watford picks in this fixture; Daniel Bachmann (4.5m), and Ismaila Sarr (6.0m). Norwich is sat bottom of the league with the worst goal difference in the Premier League (-10). I’m hoping for a clean sheet for Norwich and Sarr to get some attacking returns against this poor defensive side. It should be a straightforward win for Watford in my opinion.

West Ham vs Man Utd

I’ve only selected one player here, take a guess… The GOAT; Ronaldo (12.5m). He scored twice on his debut and rewarded his record-breaking 2.2m managers who transferred him in last Gameweek. I don’t think there is much else to say here, for me, he’s a set and forget player regardless of fixtures.

Our Bench Picks

Robert Elliot (4.0m)

Simply bench fodder here, Watford’s current backup keeper since Foster is out with a hamstring injury.

Luke Ayling (4.5m)

Ayling is another defender who offers potential attacking returns which is just what you want from a defender and at only 4.5m, it’s a no brainer for me.

Yves Bissouma (4.6m)

Just a cheap midfielder here to add better value to the team elsewhere. He will play 90 minutes and is a good option for your bench should he have to come on.

Brandon Williams (4.0m)

Another great pick for your bench here, former Man United player, he should play every game and he’s only 4.0m, you can’t really go wrong with that.
