Who Are The Best FPL Players To Own For GW16?

Here are my FPL Way Picks for Gameweek 16 for the 2021-22 season. The deadline for GW16 is on Friday 10th December at 18:30 GMT

I will be building a team that I feel will perform well in Gameweek 16. This team uses £99.9m of the £100m budget.

The FPL XV – Who Are the Best Assets to Own in GW16?

Gameweek 15 has been another interesting week for sure with the race at the top of the Premier League being even closer now. We finally get a bit of a breather until GW16 and still have 5 more Gameweeks to go to finish off the year. My picks for Gameweek 15 ended up with a tidy 72 points which is not too shabby at all considering it was a lower than average Gameweek score. Let’s move on to Gameweek 16 where I will be providing the reasoning behind my picks. Three players you may be surprised to see that didn’t make it into my team are Bernando Silva, João Cancelo and Heung-Min Son, but with a £100m budget, some sacrifices had to be made but all three are definitely worth concidering.

My Gameweek 16 Selection

Goalkeeper

Daniel Bachmann
  • Brentford vs Watford
  • Price: £4.2m
  • Ownership: 1.4%
  • Projected Points: 2.9 Points

With Ben Foster out with an injury, Bachmann is once again the number one keeper for Watford. A cheap and cheerful GK who could well get some points this GW, even if it’s just from save points. Let’s hope for a clean sheet as it looks like Brentford’s star striker Ivan Toney will be out for GW16.

Defenders

Reece James
  • Chelsea vs Leeds
  • Price: £6.2m
  • Ownership: 34.7%
  • Projected Points: 5.9 Points

With a tasty home fixture like this one, this has a clean sheet written all over it with the potential of some attacking returns we all know this man is capable of. James has recorded 4 goals, 4 assists and 6 clean sheets so far this season and I’m sure he can do some damage in this fixture.

Trent Alexander-Arnold
  • Liverpool vs Aston Villa
  • Price: £8.1m
  • Ownership: 39.9%
  • Projected Points: 6.3 Points

Trent keeps delivering the goods and his high price tag is most certainly justified. In the last 5 GW’s, he has an average of 9.4 points per game and has provided 1 goal and 4 assists. Attacking defenders are what you want in FPL and that’s exactly what he offers.

Rúben Santos Gato Alves Dias
  • Man City vs Wolves
  • Price: £6.0m
  • Ownership: 23.5%
  • Projected Points: 5.4 Points

Man City have the easiest of fixtures for this Gameweek and this should well be a clean sheet. Wolves have failed to score a single goal in the last 3 GW’s which adds to the appeal of a Man City defender like Dias (or Cancelo if your budget allows it).

Midfielders

Jarrod Bowen
  • Burnley vs West Ham
  • Price: £6.4m
  • Ownership: 3.6%
  • Projected Points: 4.0 Points

Bowen had a fantastic game against Chelsea in their 3-2 victory and provided the returns with a goal and an assist. With only 3.6% ownership, he is quite the differential as well. So far he has scored 3 goals and provided 7 assists this season; definitely a player I am considering as part of my transfer plan this week.

Mohamed Salah
  • Liverpool vs Aston Villa
  • Price: £13.1m
  • Ownership: 73.1%
  • Projected Points: 8.7 Points

The Egyptian man that just keeps on giving… I can’t believe that he has only blanked once so far this season back in Gameweek 2. He has 13 goals to his tally, provided 10 assists and has a Gameweek average of 10.1 points. The player is absolutely essential to any squad.

Diogo Jota
  • Liverpool vs Aston Villa
  • Price: £8.0m
  • Ownership: 29.4%
  • Projected Points: 8.2 Points

If Roberto Firmino misses out again, it simply just adds to the appeal of Jota. In the last 4 GW’s he’s provided 4 goals with an average of 8.25 points per game. I can see him starting and getting a return in this fixture as he plays as the frontman for The Reds.

James Maddison
  • Leicester vs Newcastle
  • Price: £6.7m
  • Ownership: 7.4%
  • Projected Points: 4.3 Points

In the last 3 GW’s, Maddison has provided 2 goals and 2 assists. They face Newcastle at home this weekend which is a team that has already conceded 30 goals so far this season (only Norwich have conceded more goals with 31). For only 6.7m and ownership of 7.4%, he’s quite the cheap differential as well in a match I expect him to perform well in.

Emile Smith Rowe
  • Arsenal vs Southampton
  • Price: £6.1m
  • Ownership: 30.3%
  • Projected Points: 4.2 Points

Smith Rowe has been a quality player this season and facing Southampton at home, he just had to be in my squad. For only 6.1m, it’s an absolute bargain and I would expect a return in this fixture.

Forwards

Emmanuel Dennis
  • Brentford vs Watford
  • Price: £5.6m
  • Ownership: 22.2%
  • Projected Points: 2.9 Points

Dennis has only blanked once in the last 4 Gameweeks in which was a tough run of fixtures for Watford. Facing Brentford, I would expect him to get on the score sheet on Friday. In the last 4 GW’s, he’s scored 3 goals and 3 assists and for only 5.6m, he’s another great bargain player.

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro
  • Norwich vs Man United
  • Price: £12.3m
  • Ownership: 28.1%
  • Projected Points: 6.4 Points

I’m not going to lie, I am thinking about captaining the GOAT this Gameweek. With an xG of 0.64, an xA of 0.12 (per 90 minutes), and the fact they face Norwich (who have conceded the most goals this season), I feel this man is essential. Even more so as Man United faces the following teams in their next 5 fixtures; NOR (A), BRE (A), BHA (H), NEW (A) and BUR (H).

Our Bench Picks

Robert Elliot (4.0m)

Watford’s current backup keeper with Foster out with an injury, features in the squad as I have Bachmann as the number one keeper.

Ben White (4.4m)

Quite a cheap player for an Arsenal defender in a fixture I would expect a clean sheet as they face Southampton on their home turf.

James Tomkins (4.3m)

An enabler more than anything, but they face a weak Everton squad so who knows.

Sam Greenwood (4.5m)

Another enabler, nothing more to it than that.
