UCL Matchday 3 – Wildcard Chip Team Reveal – @FantasySilva

With Matchday 3 swiftly approaching, I thought I would do a Wildcard Team reveal and give reasonings behind my selection. On Matchday 2, I used my Limitless Chip which worked out pretty nicely with a solid 90 points. I’ve now used my Wildcard as I feel I’ve got to see how players are performing in the UCL and want to build a solid team to set me up until the round of 16 where we then will be able to make unlimited transfers again.

The Transfer Deadline for Matchday 3 is on Tuesday 19th October at 17:45 (BST).

Here are the fixtures:

My Wildcard Team for Matchday 3

Here is my selection for Matchday 3 using the Wildcard Chip. As you may know, you can change players during a Matchday as long as they play on different days. The bench consists of players which are playing on the 20th, who will then come on should any of my starting XI underperform. I know Ajax have a pretty difficult fixture against Dortmund, but I will still be going for captain Haller in the first round, then potentially switching to Lewandowski or Ronaldo if need be. Here are the reasons why I selected these players:

Gregor Kobel (€4.5m)

Ajax vs Dortmund

The fixtures may be difficult in the next 2 Matchdays but at that price and a goalkeeper that rotates nicely with my substitute GK, you can’t really go wrong. With a strong attacking Ajax team, maybe he can get a fair few save points at least.

Marquinhos (€5.5)

PSG vs Leipzig

If PSG can silence Man City, I’m pretty confident that they can get a clean sheet against Leipzig. He’s averaging at 5.5 points per game and for me, this guy is a no brainer.

César Azpilicueta (€5.1)

Chelsea vs Malmö

Chelsea’s defence has been pretty solid in recent times and with a favourable home fixture, this has a clean sheet written all over it for me. Azpilicueta looks to be the most nailed on player for them in their defence and for me, he’s a great long-term pick.

Nuno Mendes (€4.5)

PSG vs Leipzig

PSG’s left-back is pretty nailed into their squad and for 4.5m, you can’t really go wrong. Hopefully, we will see a clean sheet and additional points from balls recovered.

Edson Álvarez (€4.5)

Ajax vs Dortmund

This player pick is more of an enabler, allowing me to upgrade my squad elsewhere. The additional benefit is that he does play 90 minutes for Ajax who look to be a very strong attacking team at the minute. He’s definitely a good long-term pick in my eyes.

Jude Bellingham (€7.2)

Ajax vs Dortmund

Bellingham has scored and assisted twice so far in the Champions League and he looks to be in great form. It wouldn’t surprise me to see more attacking returns even in a difficult fixture like this one.

Serge Gnabry (€10.0)

Benfica vs Bayern

In Bayern Munich’s last game against Bayer Leverkusen, Gnabry netted two goals and so far in UCL he has scored and provided an assist. Although Benfica is a good Portuguese side, I still believe Gnabry will get an attacking return in this fixture.

Ivan Rakitić (€7.1)

LOSC vs Sevilla

Rakitić is another player that seems to be in good form and has scored twice in UCL so far. I can see him doing some damage to the French squad and provide another attacking return.

Ander Herrera (€5.6)

PSG vs Leipzig

Herrera is another example of a player who is relatively cheap, plays for a good squad and is quite a nailed on player. I’m not expecting much from him but he’s a decent enabler for my team that’s for sure.

Sébastien Haller (€8.7)

Ajax vs Dortmund

This guy is simply on fire at the moment and had already scored 5 goals in the Champions League. I can’t ignore a class player who is in good form, even if they do face a difficult German squad.

Robert Lewandowski (€11.6)

Benfica vs Bayern

Lewandowski for me is an essential player, he’s on incredible form, scored twice in their last match in the Bundesliga and has also already scored 4 goals in UCL. He’s a goal-scoring machine and was a very easy selection for my team.

Bench Picks

Yassine Bounou (€5.0m)

No doubt this man will be coming on for Kobel since Sevilla faces LOSC in their next fixture in what I believe will be a clean sheet.

Cristiano Ronaldo (€11.0m)

His form hasn’t exactly been that great in the Premier League in recent matches but we definitely see a consistent player when it comes to UCL matches as he wants to continue breaking records. Another player who I feel is essential and I’m sure he will add some more goals to the two he has already scored in the tournament.

Matthijs de Ligt (€5.0m)

Averaging at 7.5 points per game and playing back to back matches in UCL against Zenit, I feel confident in Juventus maintaining their clean sheet record in the next two matches.

Diego Carlos (€4.5m)

Carlos is my budget defender and since Sevilla has one of the easiest groups, he was a pretty straightforward pick for me. A great enabler and hopefully Sevilla will start getting some clean sheets in the remaining fixtures for the group stages.
