Hello, and welcome to the 10th edition of this season’s Predicting the Dream Team brought to you by me, FPL Texan. In this article, we preview FPL Gameweek 13 of the 2021/2022 season.
In this series, I go head-to-head each week with Fantasy Football Fix to see who can select the best team of the week, their algorithm or myself. It is a classic battle of man vs. machine!
Let’s take a look at last week’s results
Fantasy Football Fix Algorithm
As you can see, I won last week!
The main difference was my selection of Reece James, who scored 12 FPL points last week.
Moving onto Gameweek 13, let’s take a look at Fix’s Team.
Fix’s Predicted Team of the Week
Please note that this team is accurate as of Thursday 18th November. However, the algorithm team updates right up until the deadline with news from press conferences and potential injuries.
Therefore, to stay completely up to date with the algorithm team, you can check it yourself just before the deadline at FantasyFootballFix.com.
Next, we will look at my predicted team of the week, and the reasons behind each decision.
Texan’s Predicted Team of the Week
- Price: £5.0m
- Ownership: 2.5%
- Projected Points: 5.1 Points
Sa makes his debut in the team of the week this week. Palace has been quite a strong defence this season, ranking eighth in the league in xGA. Burnley have struggled to get going so far attacking wise this season with the worst xG in the league to date, so a clean sheet could be on the cards for Wolves this week.
Guaita averages 3.16 saves per match, averaging a save point per contest.
- Price: £6.1m
- Ownership: 29.5%
- Projected Points: 4.5 Points
James makes the team of the week again this week. Reece has been in phenomenal form this season, ranking 1st amongst defenders in the league for xG per 90 at 0.21. He also ranks second for xA per 90 at 0.32 trailing only Trent Alexander Arnold, showing that he is very active in this Chelsea attack that has been performing well ranking 3rd best in xG in the league.
With 3 double-digit performances in his last 4 games, Reece James is in great attacking form, so he makes the team of the week.
- Price: £7.8m
- Ownership: 34.9%
- Projected Points: 6.4 Points
Trent is in the team of the week again this week with a matchup against Southampton. Liverpool has been a strong defence this season, with the 4th best xGA in the league. Trent also offers phenomenal attacking return potential, ranking 1st in xA per 90 amongst defenders in the league at 0.47, and first in attempted assists per 90 at 3.50.
Trent and the Liverpool attack are firing on all cylinders at the moment, so he’s a lock-in within the team of the week.
- Price: £6.6m
- Ownership: 33.4%
- Projected Points: 4.9 Points
Cancelo rounds out the defence this week with a matchup against West Ham. City has been one of the best, if not the best, defences in the league again this season with the best xGA in the league by some margin. Cancelo also offers great attacking return potential, ranking tied for 4th in xG per 90 and xA per 90 amongst defenders.
Cancelo has been great for this City side this season, and I think he could be in for another big game this week.
- Price: £7.6m
- Ownership: 14.5%
- Projected Points: 7.4 Points
Jota is in the team of the week this week. Liverpool is the top team in the league for xG so far this season, and Jota has been a major factor in their success. He ranks fourth in xG per 90 on the team at 0.55 and third for xA per 90 at 0.35.
With Firmino again out this week, and Jota being fit he is a lock in the team of the week when he has a good matchup.
- Price: £6.3m
- Ownership: 9.4%
- Projected Points: 4.2 Points
Saka makes the article this week. Newcastle has the third-worst xGA in the league this season, so Arsenal attackers should be in for a good week. Saka has been a big factor in the Gunners attack this season, ranking third on the team for xG per 90 at 0.22 and second in xA per 90 at 0.16.
With a nice matchup against a poor Newcastle defence, Saka makes the team of the week this week.
- Price: £6.0m
- Ownership: 25.3%
- Projected Points: 4.3 Points
Gallagher is in the team of the week this week. He and Palace go up against a Villa side that has been middle of the road in the league for xGA. Gallagher has been vital to Palace’s success, ranking second in xG per 90 at 0.37 and first in xA per 90 at 0.22.
Gallagher has been in fine form this season, and I expect that to continue this week against Burnley.
MOHAMED SALAH (C)
- Price: £13.0m
- Ownership: 72.3%
- Projected Points: 8.6 Points
Salah is once again my captaincy selection this week. The Liverpool attack has been in phenomenal form, leading the league in xG by some margin. Salah has been on another level this season, with 11 goals and 8 assists through 12 league games. He leads the league in xG per 90 at 0.66 and is 4th in xA per 90 at 0.35.
When Salah is in this form, he is a set and forget captain for me, and an absolute lock in the team of the week.
- Price: £12.2m
- Ownership: 10.9%
- Projected Points: 4.5 Points
Kane is in the team of the week again this week. He goes up against a Burnley side that rank in the bottom half of the league for xGA. Although Kane hasn’t lit it up with returns so far this season, he is ranked second on the team for xG per 90 at 0.27 and first for xA per 90 at 0.17.
Kane has been off to a poor start by his standards this season, but I think that could start to change this week against Burnley.
- Price: £6.7m
- Ownership: 21.1%
- Projected Points: 3.7 Points
Toney is back in the team of the week this week. Everton has not looked great defensively as of late, ranking middle of the road in xGA. Brentford switch their formation last week and moved Toney into a solo forward role, where he rewarded owners with a goal. He ranks second on the team in xG per 90 at 0.25 and first in xA per 90 at 0.22.
Toney and Brentford looked much better going forward after the formation change, and I think owners could be rewarded again this week against Everton.
- Price: £7.8m
- Ownership: 12.3%
- Projected Points: 4.6 Points
Jimenez rounds out the team of the week this week. He faces newly promoted Norwich, who rank tied for worst in the league for xGA with Watford. Jimenez has been a crucial part of Wolves attack again this season, ranking second in xG per 90 at 0.29 and first in xA per 90 at 0.18
With a great matchup against Norwich, Jimenez makes the team of the week.
