The FPL XV – Who Are the Best Assets to Own in GW12?

So did you all enjoy the International Break? I’m not going to lie, I loved it; it’s exactly what I needed, especially as we’re approaching the time of the season where we have several matches over a short period of time. GW12 is swiftly approaching now and I feel I’ve picked a pretty tasty selection for the Gameweek ahead. There’s a fair few Southampton, Spurs and Crystal Palace assets in this weeks picks but I feel all three of these teams will perform rather nicely, especially as they have the most favourable fixtures. We may be overlooking Palace assets; they really have been performing a lot better in recent times under Patrick Vieira. My differential pick of the week is most certainly Callum Wilson with only 2.3% ownership. Brentford has been looking very poor and I do feel he could take great advantage of this. So let’s get back to business and discuss why I have selected the troops for GW12.

My Gameweek 12 Selection

Goalkeeper

Alex McCarthy (4.6m)

Norwich vs Southampton

With two clean sheets under his belt and facing a team that has only scored 5 goals so far this season, McCarthy was the stand out keeper for me. Southampton defence seems pretty solid to me and I feel they will come out with a clean sheet in this fixture.

Defenders

Tino Livramento (4.5m)

Norwich vs Southampton

What an absolute gem this guy has been; he’s raised in price from 4.0m to 4.5m which is pretty incredible really. He’s accumulated 48 points so far this season and he hasn’t blanked since GW6. I feel it will be another clean sheet with the possibility of an attacking return, to be honest with you. He is flagged with a knock at the moment with a 75% chance of playing, but I feel he will play; he is certainly a player to keep an eye on that’s for sure.

Sergio Reguilón (5.0m)

Spurs vs Leeds

You seriously cannot ignore Spurs’ fixture for the next 4 GW’s; on paper, it’s pretty much 4 clean sheets in a row with the potential of an attacking return from this player. Under Antonio Conte, I can definitely see a massive change to their team and I definitely feel they will start to perform a lot better. 9.8% of managers already have him in their squad which isn’t a surprise really; he’s most certainly the pick I would go for in terms of defensive assets.

Tyrick Mitchell (4.5m)

Burnley vs Crystal Palace

I really rate this player; he’s a quality defender that offers an attacking threat as well. Palace is performing a lot better now and for a 4.5m defender that has averaged 6.3 points per game over the last 3 GW’s, you can’t really ignore that right?

Midfielders

Heung-Min Son (10.3m)

Spurs vs Leeds

Son has bagged a goal in his previous 2 meetings against Leeds and it really wouldn’t surprise me if he got more than that this weekend. It was a tough decision really whether to for Son or Kane for this week’s picks, but I certainly feel Son has a lot more to offer at the moment. Son has 4 goals and 2 assists so far compared to Kane’s 1 goal and assist. For me, he just seems the safer pick as we await Kane to pick up his ‘normal’ form he tends to do later on in the season.

Mohamed Salah (13.0m)

Liverpool vs Arsenal

He’s the top goal scorer, has the most assists, averages at 10.6 points per game, and has nearly accumulated double the points to the second-highest scoring FPL player (Cancelo 67 points). I still find it surprising that only 71.6% of managers have him in their squad, but this is a huge percentage of ownership nevertheless. This guy is essential for any manager, in my opinion, I’d seriously fear not owning him regardless of how difficult Liverpool’s fixtures are.

Conor Gallagher (5.8m)

Burnley vs Crystal Palace

An absolute quality player in my opinion and most certainly someone I absolutely regret not bringing into my team. He’s accumulated 25 points in the last two Gameweeks alone and it hasn’t exactly been against the most favourable fixtures. Palace is looking very sharp at the moment and I can definitely see him getting some attacking returns against a weak Burnley squad this weekend.

Jarrod Bowen (6.3m)

Wolves vs West Ham

West Ham has been quite a surprisingly strong team so far this season and Bowen seems to be a very juicy differential pick with only 2.2% ownership. He’s accumulated 20 points over the last 2 GW’s and it really wouldn’t surprise me if he continued his excellent form as they face Wolves away. Benrahma did seem to be the better pick at the start of the season but Bowen seems to be consistently getting returns now so it’s very hard to ignore him.

Forwards

Adam Armstrong (5.9m)

Norwich vs Southampton

This fella’s form seems to be picking up and I really do favour players of this calibre. It would honestly surprise me if he doesn’t get an attacking return in this fixture which is why he’s in my picks this week.

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro (12.4m)

Watford vs Man Utd

After a very shocking 2-1 defeat (Portugal vs Serbia) where he looked absolutely distraught after the match, I feel Ronaldo will come back will an absolute banger in this fixture. As we approach Man Utd’s fixture swing, I think we’ll start to see the Portuguese star we absolutely expected as he returned to the Premier League in GW4. The man is an absolute record-breaker, a true goat; and in all honestly, I can see him taking away the golden boot this season even though he’s only scored 4 goals in 8 Premier League matches. I’d seriously fear not owning this player…

Callum Wilson (7.3m)

Newcastle vs Brentford

Brentford don’t seem to be the strong team they seemed at the start of the season and I feel Wilson will get some attacking returns in this fixture for sure; especially at home. With only 2.3% ownership, he really is my differential pick of the week of GW12; I certainly feel he could get a double-digit return this weekend.

Our Bench Picks

Lukasz Fabianski (5.0m)

A pure bench cover pick here really; it would have been Robert Sánchez but he will be missing this Gameweek due to his red card in the previous fixture.

Bryan Mbeumo (5.6m)

Battling out against a team that has conceded the second-most goals in the Premier League; I feel he could definitely get an attacking return. If Brentford had a better performance against Norwich in the previous fixture; he most certainly would have been a starter in this week’s picks.

Lewis Dunk (5.0m)

Brighton has looked great defensively so far this season; four clean sheets so far with the potential to add another one in this fixture.

Shane Duffy (4.4m)

Same as above really, but a class cheaper entry into Brighton’s defence. He’s also scored a goal and provided an assist so far this season; a great pick for sure, especially at only 4.4m.
